In April 2011, Greg Mitchell wrote Dan Ellsberg and “Saving Private Manning” an article which highlighted Ellsberg as “one person” who “has spoken up for Manning for his actual (alleged) actions as a whistleblower ever since his arrest last May.” Mitchell drew a distinction between the many activists supporting Manning’s cause because of his conditions of confinement and others, like Ellsberg, who are also standing up for Private Bradley Manning because of his alleged crime of leaking classified documents to WikiLeaks.
Since this time, more and more people have joined Ellsberg in defending and “Saving Private Manning.” Organizationally the group leading the effort is the Bradley Manning Support Network, launched in June 2010, which has a growing base of support and advisors. Members of the network’s advisory board include: Daniel Ellsberg, Medea Benjamin, Ray McGovern, Michael Moore and others.

And new advisors and supporters continue to join the cause. This includes the recent announcement by Robert Meeropol, son of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg who were executed by the US Government in 1953 for “conspiring to steal the secret of the atomic bomb.” Meeropol is an activist, author and the director of The Rosenberg Fund for Children as well as a recent addition to the Advisory Board of the Bradley Manning Support Network. In his blog post announcing his membership on the network’s advisory board Robert Meeropol articulates why he is “raising his voice” to support Bradley Manning. The reasons are many, including Manning’s treatment conditions but also the fundamental issues Manning’s incarceration surfaces including the importance of “…the people’s right to know what their government is doing.” We encourage you to read this for yourself to understand the range of reasons why people are supporting the network and “Saving Private Manning” cause.
Last week I joined the Advisory Board of the Bradley Manning Support Network. I sought them out not only because it is a honor to join a Board that includes Medea Benjamin of Code Pink, as well as Daniel Ellsberg of Pentagon Papers fame, and filmmaker Michael Moore, among others, but also because I believe it is imperative for as many people as possible to raise their voices in support of Manning.

“Saving Private Manning” | The Movie ReMix
Fascinated by the growing network of Manning supporters Wikileaks-Movie.com and artist Merlin Street crafted this remix titled “Saving Private Manning.” As a work of art it draws inspiration from the original “Saving Private Ryan” movie directed by Steven Spielberg, as well as Greg Mitchell’s article from April 2011, Dan Ellsberg and “Saving Private Manning”. While prominently incorporating and featuring Daniel Ellsberg, Medea Benjamin, Bradley Manning and Michael Moore most members of the Bradley Manning Support Network are also noted as key contributors fighting to support, protect and “save” Bradley Manning.
