Wikileaks Movie Material: Cablegate, Spain, Germany

Wikileaks Movie fans are interested in a “Suspenseful Thriller,” but more importantly, as Cablegate impacts in Spain and Germany surface today, we want to see a Wikileaks Movie which links to relevant societal issues. This is the challenge facing Spielberg’s DreamWorks Studios as well as others like Alex Gibney. Today, as reported in “WikiLeaks cables recount how U.S. pressured allies” by the San Francisco Chronicle’s Bob Egelko, we learn of US Diplomats pressuring and coercing officials in Spain and Germany to protect US interests or face negative impacts in terms of “bilateral relations.” These situations certainly do not surprise anyone who is even remotely interested in international negotiations and relations. However, the detail which has surfaced seems to show US diplomats crossing that blurry line between ethical protection of US interests and unethical pressure to shield US citizens from prosecution for actual crimes. In the Wikileaks Movie we can imagine a scene which covers the action-packed details of the seizure, drugging and interrogation of Khaled el-Masri who was mistakenly thought to be an al Qaeda agent by CIA officers. Fast forwarding to the hallways of diplomacy which are illuminated by Cablegate, viewers could then a glimpse of the high pressure negotiations to prevent the prosecution of the CIA agents involved. This tends to portray US security measures in a negative light. The Wikileaks movie may go the other way, highlighting the “leak” in a negative light as well as the interests of the US after 9-11 and the important battle against al-Qaida. Whether mistakes were made or not, there may be an attempt to justify this situation in the name of US national and global security. At this point this is all imagination and brainstorming on our part here at Wikileaks-Movie.com, for it may be a while until theaters release the actual Wikileaks Movie by DreamWorks or Alex Gibney.
