Wikileaks, Gandhi and the India Anti-Corruption Movement

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, speaking recently about Gandhi and India, has stated that the anti-corruption movement in this country has been inspired by the Wikileaks release of Cablegate materials by the Hindu. Revolution in Tunisia, Egypt and the Middle East has definitely been influenced by the release of U.S. diplomatic cables. And now, with the recent collaboration with Wikileaks and the Hindu, Wikileaks is sparking open debate and health civil society conflict around anti-corruption efforts in India. The impact of Wikileaks, Cablegate and Julian Assange is further cemented by these statements. What will be interesting to observe is how the multitude of Wikileaks Movie, Film and Documentary projects will cover these tangible “impacts” of Wikileaks and Julian Assange.

The Knife of Bradley Manning and Indian Students Attacked in Austrailia

Pfc. Bradley Manning, whose name is carved permanently in whistleblower and Wikileaks Movie history, brandished a knife while threatening his stepmother in 2006. This story emerges after a recent PBS Frontline coverage on Wikileaks, with particular focus on the life history of Bradley Manning. Manning first made headlines after surfacing as the whistleblower responsible for the massive leak of US diplomatic cables to Wikileaks who then embarked on Cablegate to make those classified and secret documents available to the public via various news agency partnerships. After Manning was turned in he was jailed at Virginia’s Quantico prison where his treatment came under fire from various dignitaries and organizations including P.J. Crowley, who later resigned over his comments regarding the “stupid” treatment of Bradley Manning.

Wikileaks Movie Trailer: After the dust of history settles how will Wikileaks, Julian Assange and Bradley Manning be judged? And for die-hard movie fans how will history judge the Wikileaks Movie Trailer (or trailers)? These are profound questions that the team at Wikileaks-Movie.com ponders. But what makes for a great trailer, anyhow? And given the range of impacts and perspectives which Wikileaks has created, what will make a Wikileaks Movie trailer great? Will there be scenes from Quantico? Will we be drawn into Bradley Manning’s mind as he hits “save” on the trove of Cablegate documents stored on a Lady Gaga CD? Will there be a semi-steamy (hopefully not too steamy) look into the sexual trials and missteps of Julian Assange? An unforgettably audacious trailer captivates an audience, creating a force field that draws in the minds, hearts and wallets of movie goers and Wikileaks Movie DVD buyers. The Wikileaks movie studios and Julian Assange documentary makers will succeed if they can somehow distill the wide range of Wikileaks topics and perspectives into a concise, evocative trailer that creates a dramatic “pull” and succeeds as a cornerstone of successfull movie advertising. The Wikileaks Movie Trailer will be a challenge to craft, just as the Wikileaks Movie will be for the many studios who are attempting to grapple with this story. But for the studio who nails the trailer…truly nails it…the movie going crowds and Wikileaks faithful will be very kind.

Wikileaks Cables. Political rage in India. Bribery and Corruption Charges. This is the stuff that makes for great Wikileaks movie material. More importantly, the Wikileaks release of US-India diplomatic communications has fueled healthy democratic conflict and debate as a political firestorm currently rages in India over bribery charges. This conflict emerged when The Hindu, via its partnership agreement with Wikileaks, released a communication from U.S. Embassy Official Steven White which described a suitcase of money being shown to him from an Indian congressional aid. This happened just as a key parliamentary vote over an India/US civilian nuclear agreement was set to occur. The allegations of bribery and corruption in India stemming from this Wikileaks release have fueled intense debate and conflict between the majority government and opposition parties. High level conflicts, political discourse like this clearly demonstrates the impact of Wikileaks, founded by Julian Assange. This lends further merit to the notion that a Wikileaks Movie, if crafted in a balanced and creative fashion, will be interesting to citizen movie goers and popular on a global scale. Blending political firestorms, such as the one currently raging in India, with intriguingly eccentric characters will add a sense of energy and action to the Wikileaks Movie.
