It’s a Cablegate soap opera! In Wikileaks cables recently published, former US ambassador Spogli highlights Italian PM Berlusconi as “damaging” to Italy but an ally that can be a “useful” servant to the United States in terms of economic and military positioning. Berlusconi, who displays a bigger-than-life personality that could very well be the focus of a movie or three, has found himself caught up in distracting episodes including sex scandals, tasteless public remarks and other affairs outside of his responsibilities as Prime Minister. These cables add further detail to the lifestyle and effectiveness of Silvio Berlusconi. But additionally, and perhaps more importantly, the US diplomatic approach is also brought into further clarity by these Wikileaks cables and Cablegate. When it comes to the Wikileaks movie, Berlusconi is one of those flashy characters who at the same time plays an important role and has true impact in world affairs. Perhaps a Berlusconi-like character will emerge when the Wikileaks movie and Julian Assange story hits theaters? Or, perhaps someone will invest in the production of a Cablegate Soap Opera!
