In Part Two of our Gitmo Interview Series, we turn our focus to “The Guards at Guantanamo”, representing some of the 1000 Navy and Army personnel who make up the Guantanamo Bay military guard force. These men and women each have a powerful and compelling story to tell from their personal experiences, as “every day was a mental battle for any person who interacted with the Gitmo prisoners on a daily basis.”
In Part One of our Gitmo Interview Series, we interviewed Montgomery J. Granger, a “Ranking U.S. Army Medical Dept Officer at Gitmo after 9/11″, and as a result of this interview we received a lot of feedback. From this we found that there are other former servicemen that served at Gitmo that have a different point of view than Major Granger, plus have something else to add to the Gitmo discussion. Each of these men and women deserve to be heard in the same respectful manner.
With this in mind, and to add additional insight into Gitmo from the other dedicated military men and women that served there, we have put together a great series of insightful Video Interviews from four former Gitmo guards that each have something powerful to say, Christopher Arendt, Terry Holdbrooks, Brandon Neely and Carlos Quinones. 1000 Navy and Army personnel make up the Guantanamo Bay military guard force, and every day spent there is a mental battle, so we must be mindful and respectful of their individual stories, as Gitmo is about more than any one man or political party. Gitmo is about America and our values.
We lead off with two excellent background introductions to Guantanamo Bay Prison by National Geographic and Miles Doran and conclude with a “Gitmo Remix Art Gallery” by @exiledsurfer (Read his #awesome interview here). We hope that you take the time to watch each video, as we all have something to learn from these brave men and women who honorably served their country. Thank you!
