The HBO & BBC Wikileaks Movie team has tapped Rowan Joffe to write the script and screenplay and added a deep roster of executive producers to complement the Oscar-Winning Director Charles Ferguson. Joffe has an impressive background, previously directing “Brighton Rock (2010)” and writing for George Clooney independent film “The American” as well as “28 Weeks Later.” The HBO & BBC film, as reported by Variety, is “… the story of the database run by former hacker and internet activist Julian Assange and his operatives, whose mission is to collect and disseminate via the Internet private, secret and classified information from anonymous sources.”

Marc Shmuger is the former co-chairman of Universal Pictures and a key Wikileaks Documentary Filmmaker and co-producer working with director Alex Gibney. The Wikileaks movie and film projects, the really successful, educational and entertaining ones, must be led and crafted by first rate producers and directors. With this in mind, the Wikileaks film will be the first project of Shmuger’s new Universal-based production company, Global Produce, which will be headquartered in Santa Monica and will have a first-look deal with Universal.

Marc Shmuger and Oscar-winner documentary director Alex Gibney are well underway with this project, interviewing key players in the Wikileaks story including Birgitta Jonsdottir and others. Recently, Marc Shmuger described this Wikileaks collaboration and project as his “Labor of Love” which is good news for movie fans and people interested in bringing the Wikileaks and Julian Assange story to life on film in as authentic and entertaining fashion as possible.
