A smuggling Yemeni General. Manning Protesters arrested at Quantico. All very serious issues for global democracy and civil liberties…and excellent makings for a captivating Wikileaks Movie trailer! There may be a few slow days when it comes to Julian Assange and the Wikileaks Movie but today was not one of them. Today the Guardian reported on Wikileaks Cables which highlighted General Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar is cited in the Wikileaks Cablegate release as a major power playing in Yemen who is “cynical and self-interested. A major beneficiary of diesel smuggling in recent years, he also appears to have amassed a fortune in the smuggling of arms, food staples, and consumer products.” For those of you who are not in the habit of reading atleast one Wikileaks Cable a week you must take the time to read this US Diplomatic Cable on Yemen. Fascinating reading for the policy-wonk-slash-inner-action hero in each of you! Also over the weekend atleast 30 Bradley Manning supporters were arrested as they marched on Quantico prison in support of Bradley Manning. Amongst those arrested was Daniel Ellsberg, Ph.D. of the Pentagon Papers incident.
