Bradley Manning, PayPal and The Wikileaks Movie

Courage-is-Contagious-bradley_manningfmj

Whistleblower Bradley Manning and the role of businesses such as PayPal remain critical elements of the Wikileaks story and ultimately will need a strong role in the Wikileaks movie. In recent days PayPal cut off donors from contributing to the defense fund for Bradley Manning. And then, as criticism mounted, PayPal reversed its decision and allowed fundraising to continue. There is no doubt that many organizations are thinking about exposure to Anonymous attacks and negative PR as they consider actions against Wikileaks or Bradley Manning. PayPal, Amazon.com, Bank of America, HB Gary and other businesses are enmeshed in the Wikileaks story. So it will be interesting to see what role these and other businesses play in the Wikileaks movie. And while we’re on the topic of characters and roles, what about the role of the whistleblowers? With all the attention on the trial of Julian Assange and the expansion of the Wikileaks it is easy to forget the whistleblowers. Whether these individuals are ethical or not, legal or not, no one can dispute their tolerance for risk and their commitment to themselves to follow their conscience. So, it is important to closely follow the Bradley Manning story as well as the journey of Rudolf Elmer. These whistleblowers are to Julian Assange and Wikileaks what fuel is to the automotive engine or good soil is to a productive farm. At Wikileaks-Movie.com we see an important window of opportunity emerging to explore the role of the whistleblower in society and Democracy. This role, as well as the role of businesses like PayPal will need to figure just as prominently as that of Julian Assange in the Wikileaks movie.
