“To BCC, Or Not To BCC, That Is The Question” — Ex-WikiLeaks Member James Ball Explores The Human Side of Source Security & Root Causes Leading to Bradley Manning’s Detention

"A Wikileak Orange" ReMix by @exiledsurfer

“To BCC, or not to BCC, that is the question.” In today’s Guardian, former WikiLeaks member James Ball traces the roots of Bradley Manning’s detention to an early email error made by Julian Assange relating to the CC/BCC fields. This seemingly small error, Ball explains, sparked a series of events leading to Bradley Manning’s detention and a host of other implications. This is a very interesting exercise in “connecting the dots” by Ball to explain his point that anonymity and source protection involve much more then technology, encryption and cyber security. To get our own heads around this series of linkages we have attempted to summarize.

“Saving Private Manning” Movie Remix – An Art Tribute to the Bradley Manning Support Network – Featuring Daniel Ellsberg, Medea Benjamin & Michael Moore

"Saving Private Manning" by Wikileaks-Movie.com & @Merlin Street

In April 2011, Greg Mitchell wrote “Dan Ellsberg and ‘Saving Private Manning’,” an article which highlighted Ellsberg as “one person” who “has spoken up for Manning for his actual (alleged) actions as a whistleblower ever since his arrest last May.” Mitchell drew a distinction between the many activists supporting Manning’s cause because of his conditions of confinement and others, like Ellsberg, who are standing up for Private Bradley Manning because of his alleged crime of leaking classified documents to WikiLeaks. Since this time, more and more people have joined Ellsberg in defending and “Saving Private Manning.” Organizationally the group leading the effort is the Bradley Manning Support Network, launched in June 2010, which has a growing base of support and advisors. Members of the network’s advisory board include: Daniel Ellsberg, Medea Benjamin, Ray McGovern, Michael Moore and others.

Bradley Manning Play by the National Theatre of Wales, Written by TV Writer Tim Price, Coming in 2012

"Bradley Manning" by Abode of Chaos

A Bradley Manning Play is in the works by the National Theatre of Wales. Titled “The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning” the play is written by TV writer Tim Price and will center around Bradley Manning’s teenage years in Haverfordwest. Multiple movies, documentaries and plays focusing on the interwoven stories of WikiLeaks and Bradley Manning face a tough crowd given the importance these stories. The recent WikiLeaks Play “Stainless Steel Rat” received a range of reviews, including scathing critiques by WikiLeaks supporters. This Bradley Manning Play will no doubt face the same level of scrutiny given the global impact of Manning’s role as accused WikiLeaks whistleblower.

Hillary Clinton Comments Spark LGBT & Drag Queen Action on Bradley Manning – Plus “Hillary-ous Gender Bending” REMIX ART

Hillary-Clinton-Bradley-Manning-Drag-Queens-wikileaks-movie-thumb

Hillary Clinton, in a June 2011 Vanity Fair article, was paraphrased as saying that she “she could not fathom how an army private, Bradley Manning, with psychological problems and a drag-queen boyfriend could single-handedly cause the United States unprecedented embarrassment…” This remark has sparked concern for many people, including members of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) community. Please Note: To be fair the above mentioned may or may not be the exact words of Secretary of State Clinton. And in the same article, as highlighted by @lindaperrybarr, Clinton was described as “…popular with State Department employees for practical changes like providing full benefits for same-sex partners (“Fix it!” she scolded bureaucrats who were dragging their feet).” The LGBT community has over the years proved that it is a powerful force to be reckoned with on human rights issues impacting all people as well as specific LGBT issues of marriage equality, the US Military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy, and others. LGBT citizen activists have taken strong stances and action which have influenced public policies and legal reforms in these areas and many others. This comment by Hillary Clinton as well as the fact that Bradley Manning is gay, has highlighted persistent stereotypes regarding those who are gay, living as “Queens” or others living lifestyles deemed “Not Straight” or “Alternative.”

Announcing the Pentagon Papers & Daniel Ellsberg Online Video Archive & Library.
