Rowan Joffe to Write HBO's Wikileaks Movie Script

The HBO & BBC Wikileaks Movie team has tapped Rowan Joffe to write the script and screenplay for their untitled “Wikileaks Movie” and added a deep roster of executive producers to complement the Oscar-Winning Director Charles Ferguson. Joffe has an impressive background, previously directing “Brighton Rock (2010)” and writing for George Clooney independent film “The American” as well as “28 Weeks Later.” Joffe will work in collaboration with Ferguson and a talented group of Executive Producers including Josh Maurer, Alixandre Witlin, David Stern, Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall.

This Wikileaks Movie script written by Rowan Joffe will focus squarely on the Wikileaks organization and story while others, such as the Gibney/Shmuger Wikileaks film will highlight and tell the story on the “lesser known” surround cast of players such as Bradley Manning, Birgittta Jonsdottir and others.

The HBO & BBC film, as reported by Variety, is “… the story of the database run by former hacker and internet activist Julian Assange and his operatives, whose mission is to collect and disseminate via the Internet private, secret and classified information from anonymous sources.” It will draw influence from the Raffi Khatchadourian article in the New Yorker titled “NO SECRETS: Julian Assenge’s Mission for Total Transparency.”

Joffe, son of director Roland Joffe, penned the George Clooney indie “The American” as well as the sci-fi pic “28 Weeks Later.” He focused more on TV projects earlier in his career.

Charles Ferguson, who earlier this year earned an Oscar for his docu “Inside Job,” is set to direct.

Exec producers are Ferguson, Josh Maurer, Alixandre Witlin, David Stern, Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall.

    I am an advocate for George Martorano. He is serving a life no parole sentence after he plead guilty in 1983.
    He has been denied 33 times to a first time non violent offence. Some one should tell his story. He is a writer of 23 books, dozens odf short storys plays and poems. He teaches a course in prison called “Write ti Life” He has paid his debt to society and he is still in chains. What a story of redemption at the highest price.
