What is the role of Wikileaks in Yemen and the “Arab Spring?” In Yemen, political revolt is in full swing. President Ali Abdullah Saleh has left the country for Saudi Arabia as the “Arab Spring” uprising causes bloodshed and a transformation in power structures. The causes for this watershed event are many, but many wonder “What has been the role of Wikileaks?” At the recent Hay Festival, Julian Assange remarked that Wikileaks had ”played a significant role” but acknowledged that many factors are at play, not simply the influence of Wikileaks cable releases. Granger, a U.S. Army Medical Deptartment Officer and author of the book Saving Grace at Guantanamo Bay, A Memoir of a Citizen Warrior (2010). Major Granger served as the ranking US Army Medical Department Officer with the Joint Detainee Operations Group (JDOG) at Guantanamo Bay (Gitmo) just months after the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, and wrote about his first-hand experience observing the daily Gitmo medical support activities, vis-a-vis the detainees, who in his words “wanted to kill him.” Major Granger kept a personal journal of his experiences, which takes you through what life is like for a Reservist, and we thank the Major for taking the time to contribute his unique insights and viewpoints with Wikileaks-Movie.com in our new Gitmo Interview Series.

From Quantico to Fort Leavenworth…Wikileaks Suspect Bradley Manning Transferred!

Goodbye Quantico. Hello Fort Leavenworth. Bradley Manning, the Wikileaks player suspected of providing classified data to Julian Assange and company, is on the move. U.S. officials will soon move Manning from his cell in Quantico to a U.S. Army prison and detention center in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. This comes as big news as Manning’s treatment and prison conditions have ignited a firestorm of protest from supporters, Manning’s parents, constitutional legal scholars and international political leaders from all corners of the world. For the growing community of Wikileaks Movie and Film fans this is an important milestone on Bradley Manning’s journey, a journey which will no doubt be chronicled and highlighted on the big screen as a key contributor to Cablegate, Wikileaks and Julian Assange. Check out these Bradley Manning and Wikileaks videos. The State Department, including spokesman Mark Toner, is getting outright grilled on Bradley Manning and the question of whether human rights observers and others should be allowed private visits to Manning at Quantico.This story and controversy will not simmer, especially if the UN and others like Dennis Kucinich have anything to do with it.

Bradley Manning’s supposed crime was “leaking” thousands of U.S. Diplomatic Cables to Wikileaks and Julian Assange. Once put in jail (no conviction or guilty verdict yet) Bradley Manning’s conditions of treatment in jail have become a global issue with hundreds of thousands of petitioners, constitutional scholars, leading politicians and other organizations coming to his defense.

United Nations Envoy Juan Mendez “Irked” Over Wikileaks Suspect Bradley Manning

An “irked” Juan Mendez of the United Nations has been denied access to Wikileaks whistle blower suspect Bradley Manning for private interviews. Mendez, has for over 4 months requested the opportunity to have private visits with Bradley Manning. However, in this time only “supervised” visits have been approved by the United States which goes against and would not comply with the mandate of an independent special envoy to the UN on torture. This has “irked” Mr. Mendez who is now making front page news while officials in Washington are struggling to assert a consistent message on Bradley Manning’s treatment and the overall concept of transparency. Perhaps Juan Mendez has that extra special can of “whoop @$$” that will earn a role in the Wikileaks Movie and Film. We’ll see!

Wikileaks, Gandhi and the India Anti-Corruption Movement

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, speaking recently about Gandhi and India, has stated that the anti-corruption movement in this country has been inspired by the Wikileaks release of Cablegate materials by the Hindu. Revolution in Tunisia, Egypt and the Middle East has definitely been influenced by the release of U.S. diplomatic cables. And now, with the recent collaboration with Wikileaks and the Hindu, Wikileaks is sparking open debate and health civil society conflict around anti-corruption efforts in India. The impact of Wikileaks, Cablegate and Julian Assange is further cemented by these statements. What will be interesting to observe is how the multitude of Wikileaks Movie, Film and Documentary projects will cover these tangible “impacts” of Wikileaks and Julian Assange.

Haaretz which is Israel’s oldest daily newspaper, has received thousands of sensitive U.S. diplomatic cables from the Wikileaks team and Julian Assange. Documents relating to Israel’s diplomatic relations with surrounding countries have been vetted and analyzed for Haaretz readers and feature articles now being published. Leading journalists such as Yossi Melman and Sefy Hendler will be responsible for analyzing and authoring reviews and commentary on these sensitive wikileaks cables.
