Al Jazeera Impacted by WikiLeaks Disclosures, Replaces Top Director Wadah Khanfar

Former Al Jazeera Director Wadah Khanfar

Al Jazeera has replaced director Wadah Khanfar after WikiLeaks cables revealed that news coverage of the war in Iraq may have been edited or toned down due to pressure from the United States. This change in leadership takes place during a period of time in which Al Jazeera is being scrutinized closely for its “varied” coverage of the Arab Spring which envelops the Middle East. Al Jazeera, which is controlled by the country of Qatar, has named Sheik Ahmad bin Jasem bin Muhammad Al-Thani as Khanfar’s successor. Al-Thani is a businessman and member of the Qatar royal family.
