Since the early days of  WikiLeaks, the Julian Assange Autobiography has been much anticipated. Who is Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks? What was the impetus behind WikiLeaks in his own words?

The book would allow Assange tell the story of WikiLeaks and his own journey from his direct point of view with little outside or third party interpretation.

Now, in a tremendous turn of events, publisher Canongate will release “Julian Assange: The Unauthorised Autobiography.”  This Julian Assange Autobiography is being published without consent from the WikiLeaks founder and after after legal, financial and contractual wrangling. “Julian Assange: The Unauthorised Autobiography” will be available September 22nd, 2011.

In December 2010, Julian Assange signed a contract with Canongate Books to write a book – part memoir, part manifesto – for publication the following year. At the time, Julian said: ‘I hope this book will become one of the unifying documents of our generation. In this highly personal work, I explain our global struggle to force a new relationship between the people and their governments.’ In the end, the work was to prove too personal….

Julian Assange’s publishers will tomorrow publish “the unauthorised first draft” of his autobiography without his consent, months after the WikiLeaks founder withdrew from a million-pound contract for his memoirs.

In a dramatic move, Canongate has defied Assange’s wishes and secretly printed thousands of copies of The Unauthorised Autobiography, by Julian Assange, copies of which have been shipped amid strict security to booksellers in preparation for imminent release.

The enormous security operation put in place by the publishers, according to a source, was in order to stop the author blocking publication.

Canongate sold rights to more than 30 publishers around the world, including Alfred A. Knopf in the U.S.

But Canongate said that as he recorded 50 hours of interviews about his life, Assange became increasingly troubled by the prospect, eventually declaring that “all memoir is prostitution.”

The publisher said Assange tried to cancel his contract, but since he had not repaid his advance it had decided to publish the first draft that the WikiLeaks founder delivered to the publisher in March.
