Filmmaker James Spione Makes Academy Oscar Shortlist

The James Spione film “Incident in New Baghdad” has been shortlisted by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for a potential Oscar. Spione, who took part in an exclusive written interview at WikiLeaks-Movie.com, is devoted filmmaker who tackles important stories ranging from Ethan McCord’s experience of the “Collateral Murder” incident later released by the organization WikiLeaks. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Thursday that James Spione’s powerful film Incident in New Baghdad, which won Best Short Documentary honors when it premiered at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival, has been shortlisted in the Documentary Short Subject category for the 84th Oscars. The final Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Tuesday, January 24,2012, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Mr. Spione, who ran a grassroots fundraising campaign on the crowd sourcing website Kickstarter to help finance the film’s qualifying theatrical run in Los Angeles last month, said he was “thrilled and honored to be considered with such a strong field of potential nominees.”
